Verdun man vanishes after taking kayak out on Lachine Rapids

Family and friends are on the lookout for Marc-Andr Dorion, who vanished after a night out on the water with friends over the long weekend.

Montreal police are searching for a young man who vanished after a night out on the water with friends over the long weekend.

On Saturday, Verdun resident Marc-Andr Dorion and a friend travelled to le Rock, a small island in the Lachine Rapids, by boat around 6 p.m. to meet up with other people they know.

Four hours later, 23-year-old Dorion took someone else'skayak out on the water alone but didn't bring his wallet or shoes, Montreal police said.

"He didn't ask permission in order to take this kayak, and he didn't bring any personal effects," said Const.Manuel Couture.

"His family and friends are pretty worried for his security right now."

He hasn't been seen or heard from since.

Dorion stands 5-8" tall and weighs 146 pounds. He has short brown hair and brown eyes.

His family told police he has no history of mental health issues, doesn't take medication and isn't suicidal.

Police are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to call 911.
