Overnight shooting in Longueuil, Que., leaves 1 dead, police suspect link to killings in RDP

Police sources told Radio-Canada the shooting in Longueuil may be linked to Monday's shooting in Rivire-des-Prairies, where three men were killed and two others were injured.

A 32-year-old man was shot to death in his Longueuil home early this morning, according tothe Longueuil police force.

Police said the man was hit with at least one bullet on Truteau Street around 1:30 a.m. The man, who was known to police,was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police sources told Radio-Canada the shooting in Longueuil may be linked to Monday'sshooting in Rivire-des-Prairies,where three men were killed andtwo others were injured.

Montreal police believe the Rivire-des-Prairies murders are tied to a gang-related conflict.

Neighbours of the Longueuil victim say they heard several gun shots in the early morning and now fear for their safety.

One neighbour, France Panneton, told Radio-Canada she was woken up just before 1:30 a.m.by a noise "that sounded likea chainsaw."

Panneton added: "I thought thieves were trying to cut the lock off the shed in the back."

The investigation has been handed over to the Sret du Qubec, just one day after Quebec announced provincial police will be integrated into Montreal's anti-gun squad to help tackle violent crimes and gun trafficking.
