Man beaten outside Orange Julep dies from his injuries

A man in his 50s has died from his injuries following an altercation on May 31 in the parking lot of the Orange Julep in Montreal's Cte-des-Neiges neighbourhood. More charges are pending for the suspect shortly after the assault.

A man in his 50s died from his injuries Thursday after being assaulted by multiple suspects in the parking lot of the Orange Julep restaurant in Montreal's Cte-des-Neiges neighbourhood in late May.

The Service de Police de la Ville de Montral (SPVM) says they received a calljust after 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday May 31.

The restaurant, with its iconic orange globe, is a popular place for Montrealers to hang outon a warm evening.

The victim was found withserious injuries to his upper body.

SPVM spokesperson Sabrina Gauthiersaid a fight had brokenout between the victim and a group of people.

The victim was knocked to the ground and repeatedly struck by the suspects before they fled the scene in a vehicle, said Gauthier.

Police arrested and charged a 22-year-old man the next day with one count of aggravated assault.

In light of the victim's death, prosecutors will now decide whether the young man will face new charges.
