Liberals pick candidate for Bonaventure byelection

Quebec's Liberal Party has chosen Damien Arsenault as its candidate for a byelection in the Bonaventure riding in the province's Gasp region.

Quebec's Liberal Party has chosen its candidate for a byelection in the Bonaventure riding in the province's Gasp region.

Damien Arsenault , the mayor of St-Elzar, Que., is in the running to replace former deputy premier Nathalie Normandeau.

Normandeau announcedher departure from politicsin September, saying she wished to concentrate on her private life after serving as Bonaventure's MNA for 13 years.

"If I want to win the confidence of the people of Bonaventure, it's because I have the regions' interests at heart," Arsenault said in a release. He's been the mayor of St-Elzar since 1993.

A date has not yet been set for the byelection.
