Cycling advocates in Montreal's Southwest borough are getting their wish at least one kilometre worth.

A stretch of the Lachine Canal bike path will be cleared of snow under a joint pilot project between the City of Montreal and Parks Canada.

The path will be maintainedbetween Smith and Richmond streets in the Griffintown neighbourhoodon the north side of the Canal.

The announcement comes after cyclists held a "shovel-in"earlier this month callingfor the path to stay open year-round.

Montreal executive committee member Aref Salem, who is in charge of transportation, said the announcement is proof the city is "listening to users."
