Quebec man found guilty of inciting hatred in video praising mosque shooter

A Terrebonne, Que., man has been found guilty of inciting hatred in a video posted to YouTube on the second anniversary of the Quebec City mosque shooting.

Pierre Dion posted the video on Jan. 29, two years to the dayafter Alexandre Bissonnette opened fire at the mosque, killing six people and seriously injuring several others.

Two days later, Dion was arrested at his home north of Montreal.

Bissonnette was sentenced to life in prison in February with no chance of parole for 40 years.

In the YouTube video, Dion praised Bissonnette and said he wanted Quebecers to "wake up."

Quebec court Judge Gilles Garneau ruled that Dion's video targeted Muslims.

"What the judge determined is that what Mr. Dion said on his YouTube videos constituted an incitement of hate," Crown prosecutor Karine Lagac-Paquette said Wednesday at the Laval courthouse.

She said the prosecution is seeking community work as his punishment, and the defence is asking for a fine and probation.

Dion's sentencing is scheduled for June 11.
