Highway 720 West over Turcot reduced to one lane

It will be a rough drive home this afternoon for people heading to the West Island from the downtown area Highway 720 West has been reduced to one lane for emergency repairs.

It will be a rough drive home Monday afternoon for commuters heading to the West Island from downtown Montreal Highway720 West has been reduced to one lane due to emergency repairs.

Transport Quebec reduced the highway from two lanes to one today after an inspection of the Turcot Interchange revealed damagerequiring immediate attention.

Transport Quebec spokeswoman, CarolineLarose,said drivers should expect major delays.

"There arethree things that we need to do. First is to repair cracks by injecting epoxy.Second is to clean the concrete and prepare the surface for the reinforcement work and then we go ahead with the reinforcement work by adding some panels that are made of composite."

The repairs will cause major traffic delays. Transport Quebec is asking drivers to use public transit, to carpool or to adjust their commuting schedules while crews work to repair the road.

The roadwork is expected to last about two months.
