Didier Drogba bound for Italy?

Montreal Impact fans have watched their team flourish with Didier Drogba, but it is quite possible they may have to share his talents with another group of fans in Italy.

According to reports in the Mirror & GazzettaWorld, the Italian Serie A club Bolonga FC is angling to lure the Impact's striker away on loan following the team's MLS playoff run.

The rumours seem feasible because Impact owner Joey Saputo is also a part owner of Bologna FC.

Saputo has watched his Italian team struggle this season. They're near the bottom of the standings, and the addition of Drogba's goal-scoring ability could be part of the club's strategy to avoid relegation.

In Montreal,Drogba has proven that, even at 37 years old, he still has the goal-scoring touch. He has scored 12 goals in 13 games since joining the Impact in September.

Drogba was also named the MLS' player of the month for both September and October.

In Beckham's footsteps?

Drogba signed an 18 month contract with the MLS this August and it should keep him with the Impact until at least the end of the 2016 MLS season.

But a loan to another team during the MLS off season is not off the table and if Drogba does play in Italy, he would not be the first player to come to the MLS only to return to Europe on loan.

David Beckham played for AC Milan twice on loan after he signed a contract with the MLS to play for the LA Galaxy in 2007.

Beckham missed part of the 2009 MLS season on his first loan to AC Milan, and on his second loan in 2010 he injured his Achilles tendon.
