COVID-19 in Quebec: What you need to know on Friday

Quebec recorded more than 1,000 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday and saw another jump in hospitalizations.

More than 1,000 new cases reported as hospitalizations rise

  • Quebec reported 1,052new cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths on Friday. Six deaths that occurred between Sept. 25 and Sept. 30 were reported.Since the start of the pandemic, there have been76,273 confirmedcases and5,857peoplehave died.
  • There are 302 peoplein hospital (an increase of 27), including 49in intensive care(an increase of three).

Quebec reported more than 1,000 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday the first time that milestone has been reached in the second wave of infections.

According to provincial data, during the first wave, the province's single-day totalsexceeded 1,000 cases only five times.

In red zones such as Montreal and Quebec City, parties and virtually all other kinds of gatherings are now banned. This weekend, police will be enforcing that ban and can issue $1,000 fines to those who do not comply.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

  • Fever.
  • New or worsening cough.
  • Difficulty breathing.
  • Sudden loss of smell without a stuffy nose.
  • Gastrointestinal issues (such as nausea, diarrhea).

Quebec government reminders for preventing the spread of COVID-19:

  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Wear a mask or face coveringwhen physical distancing is not possible. Wearing a mask is mandatory in enclosed public spaces across the province.
  • Stay at least two metres away from other people as much as possible.
  • Self-isolate for 14 days after returning from a stay outside the country.
