COVID-19 in Quebec: What you need to know Tuesday

Quebec's premier is looking at the possibility of extending the winter school break to curb the spread of COVID-19. Here's what you need to know.

Quebec Premier Franois Legault sayshe plans to give guidelines in the coming days for how loved ones can gather together, in limited numbers, over the holidays.

Legault said the situation has stabilized in much of the province, even if the rolling seven-day average remainsabove 1,000 cases per day.

"We'll announce our plan soon to allow everyone to prepare. But we'll have to be in a good position in December," he said Tuesday.

Legault said one possibility being considered in consultation with public health is to extend the winterschool break by two weeks.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

  • Difficulty breathing.
  • Sudden loss of smell without a stuffy nose.
  • Gastrointestinal issues (such as nausea, diarrhea).

Quebec government reminders for preventing the spread of COVID-19:

  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Wear a mask or face coveringwhen physical distancing is not possible. Wearing a mask is mandatory in enclosed public spaces across the province.
  • Stay at least two metres away from other people as much as possible.
  • Self-isolate for 14 days after returning from a stay outside the country.
