Boy, 6, missing after trying to save dog from river

Search and rescue crews are combing the banks of the Rivire Noire just east of Saint-Hyacinthe, Que., looking for a six-year-old boy who is missing after trying to save his dog.

Search and rescue crewsare combing the banks of theRivire Noirejust east of Saint-Hyacinthe, Que., looking for a six-year-old boy who is missing after trying to save his dog.

Police said it appearsthe child fell into the river earlyMonday evening.

The boy was playing near the river withhis 10-year-old brother justbefore he went missing.

Police said both boyswere trying to rescue their dog, whichhad wandered out onto an ice floe and isalso missing.

Quebec provincial police are using a helicopter tosearch for the boyand firefighters are on the water with rescue boats.

Police are asking anyone living along the river to help with the search by scanning the water.
