Tropical storm Beryl expected to hit Montreal, bringing copious amounts of rain

Beryl, the powerful hurricane that devastated islands in the Caribbean before lashing Mexico and Texas, has weakened. It is now a tropical storm, and it's bringing a lot of rain.

Get your umbrella ready. A lot of rain is on the way.

Not just any rain, hurricane rain. Well, tropical storm rain, at least.

Environment Canada (ECCC) has issued a special weather statement for Montreal and southern Quebec, warning that the remnants of tropical storm Beryl will begin to arrive late Wednesday.

Expect between 40 and 80 mm or rain to fall, the agency says.

ButBeryl, the powerful hurricane that devastated islands in the Caribbean before lashing Mexico and Texas, has weakened. It is now a tropical storm and will havelost most of its energy travelling northward. It is expected to bring some moderate winds.

The rain is likely to continue to fall all, or most of the day, Thursday.The ECCCstatement warned of possible flash flooding and ponding on roads.
