Another water main break hits Saint-Henri

Montreal'sSaint-Henrineighbourhood is the site of yet another water main break.

An overnightbreach ina 35.5-centimetre pipecaused some flooding on RosedeLima Street near Workman.

A handful of residents lost power and have had their water shut offbecause of the flooding. Water was still trickling through the area Tuesday morning.

RosedeLima was already closed for construction, so this should not affect traffic in the area.

This recent incident is near the site of a more severe water main break that occurred Saturday.

That break left more than 1,000 people without power and prompted a boil water advisory, which was lifted Tuesday.

There were also two smaller water main breaks in recent days: one on Sainte Cungonde Streetand another on de Biencourt Street.

Southwest borough MayorBenoit Dorais attributed the spate of recent water main breaks to his borough's aging infrastructure. The speed of upgrades, though, is constrained by the borough's finances.

"The pipes in the Southwest are mostly old,"Doraistold CBC News. "But there have been a lot pipes that have been changed in the last decade. It's going better, but we have to work hard on the budget."

A dozen breaks city-wide

Workers alsohad to deal withthe aftermath of 10 otherwater main breaks on the island of Montreal.

HochelagaStreet will remain closed Tuesday nightbetween Dickson and L'Assomptionafter a water main ruptured there. It was one of two water mains to erupt in the borough of MercierHochelaga-Maisonneuve.

In Rivire-des-PrairiesPointe-aux-Trembles,a boil water order is in effect for the next 24 hours for residents who liveon 6th Avenue, between RenLvesque and de la Gauchetire. It was one of four water main breaks in R.D.P.

TheVille-Marie borough had three pipes rupture while the borough of Verdun had one.
