Downtown Montreal altercation leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

One man in his 20s was killed and another was injured following an altercation that happened overnight in Downtown Montreal.

Montreal police are investigating after an overnight altercation in downtown Montrealleft one man in his 20s deadand another injured.

The SPVM received a call at around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, and found two victims near the corner of Sherbrooke and Mansfield Streets steps away from McGill University.

According to Montreal police spokesperson Vronique Dubuc,both men had suffered what appeared to be upper-body injuries from a sharp object.

A 23-year-old man was taken to hospital, and his death was confirmed shortly after.Dubuc says he was not known to police.

The other victim, a20-year-old man, did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

The 23-year-old man's death marks this year's21st homicide on Montreal police territory.

The SPVM's major crimes unit was still at the scene as of 8.a.m. on Saturday.
