A newborn was found safe after being abducted from a hospital in Trois-Rivires, between Montreal and Quebec City, late Monday, Quebec provincial police said.

A newborn was found safe after being abducted from a hospital inTrois-Rivires, between Montreal and Quebec City, late Monday, Quebec provincial police say.

Police arrested a suspect at her home.

Neighbours of the suspect recognized a photo of her and alerted the police, tweeted CBC's Mathieu Papillon.

TheSretduQubec saidthat just before 7 p.m., a woman dressed as a nurse showed up at the Sainte-Marie Hospital andwent into the room of a new mother under false pretense.

Police saidthe woman left the room a few minutes later holding a baby wrapped in a blue blanket.

The baby is one day old.

Police issued an Amber Alert around 7 p.m. and werelooking for a red Toyota Yarishatchback with a "Bb bord" sticker.

They were looking for a woman measuring about five feet four inchesand weighing about 130 pounds.

Police shared a photo of the suspect on Twitter. After ending the Amber Alert around 10 p.m., police thanked the public for widely sharing the post.

The youth who identified the suspect went to visit the newborn's parents late Monday evening, Papillon tweeted.
