Woman dies in head-on collision on Highway 59

A 44-year-old woman died early Tuesday morning after the vehicle she was in crashed head-on into another vehicle on Highway 59 near Niverville, RCMP say.

A 44-year-old woman died early Tuesday morning after the vehicle she was in crashed head-on into another vehicle on Highway 59 near Niverville, RCMP say.

The woman, from New Bothwell, Man., was driving south and her vehiclecrossed the centre line near Stott Road and crashedhead-on into a northbound vehicle witha 52-year-old man, also from New Bothwell,at the wheel, police said in a news release Tuesday.

The woman was pronounced dead at the site of the crash, police said.

The 52-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threateninginjuries.

Highway 59 was closed in the area,which is south of Winnipeg, for part of Tuesday morning but has since reopened.
