Winter warning: Snow arrives in Manitoba

A number of communities in northern Manitoba are getting their first brush with winter today.

A number of communities in northern Manitoba are getting their first brush with winter weathertoday.

Thompson, Flin Flon, Nelson House, Split lake, Cranberry Portageand Lynn Lake are all under an Environment Canadasnowfall warning.

"Most of the very nasty weather is on the north side of the low with huge amounts of rain across the north end of the lakes and wet snow farther north throughFlinFlon, Lynn Lake and Thompson," saidCBC meteorologist JohnSauder.

Thelowpressuresystem is slow moving and centred over theInterlake regiontracking to the northeast, he said.

There is no accumulating snow in Sauder's forecast for Winnipeg, yet.

Snowfall totals will be between 25 and50 centimetresin the areas under warnings.

ShamattawaandGillamare under a rain warnings Wednesday. Sauder said rainfall totals will be between 50and 100 millimetres by Thursday morning.

"It's not justabout the the rain and snow.The winds are gusty behind this system," Sauder added.

"Things start to settle down on Friday but the colder air is sinking south already and will last into the weekend."
