Winnipeggers asked to be 'snow angels,' help shovel snow

Be an angel. Help your neighbour shovel snow. That's the idea behind the Snow Angels campaign, aimed at encouraging Winnipeggers to help shovel snow for those with limited mobility.

Be an angel. Help your neighbour shovel snow.

That's the idea behind the Snow Angels campaign, a joint project between the City of Winnipeg and the province that hopes toencourage Winnipeggers to shovel snow for others who have limited mobility.

The program is active in Calgary and Edmonton. Hamilton has one, too, but it's running into problems.

Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz said helping out is also good for the person doing the shovelling.

"Basically get out there, be a snow angel and shovel a little bit of snow. And if you do it at the proper pace, it's also good exercise."

The province is spending $60,000 on the initiative.
