Winnipeg teen Reese Precourt bakes to help city's homeless

A Winnipeg teen is helping the city's homeless population by baking.

On Saturday,ReesePrecourt, 15, set up The Reese'sPieces Project 2.0, an initiative she started three years ago that involves raising money for Winnipeg's Lighthouse Mission.

Precourt learned of the Main Street soup kitchenbefore starting the initiative, and she said her trip there changed her perspective.

"I really got to see the people there and what they really go through and how lucky I really am to have shelter, food, education all the necessities in my life," she said.

"I just want to help those people have as much as they could of what I have."

Ever since the experience, her efforts have been dedicated to raising money for that particular organization.

"I have a place in my heart for lighthouse mission," she said.

"I really love them and their commitment to their people. They never turn anyone down no matter their condition. They are a local soup kitchen, they just are really amazing people."

There were 350 containers of baked goods ready to sell at Reese's Pieces 2.0 on Saturday, which took place on Lowson Crescent,and Precourt said her goal was to raise $5,000.

By the end of the day, she said the numbers were "sealed," and she could not reveal them at the time, but that she was happy with how the sale did.
