A 51-year-old man who worked as a youth counsellorhas been charged with sexual exploitation,after Winnipeg police say he gave a teenage girl extra canteen items and then sexually assaulted herwhile she was an inmateata Manitoba youth corrections centre.

Troy David Wenselwas arrestedon Tuesdayaftera teen reportedshe had been sexually assaulted while she was in custody in 2022 and 2023, a police news release said Thursday.

Wenselworked at thecorrections facility during that time as a youth counsellor and formed arelationship with the girl, police said.Hesexually assaulted her as part of an exchange for the extra canteen items, according to police.

He is charged with sexual assault, exploitationand obtaining sexual services from a person under the age of 18.

He was released with conditions, includingnot interacting with anyone 18 or younger.
