Unresponsive man taken to hospital after police respond to disturbance in St. Boniface

Manitoba's Independent Investigation Unit has been notified after a man was taken to hospital in critical condition following an incident on Provencher Boulevard at Tache Avenue Tuesday evening.

Manitoba's Independent Investigation Unit has been notified after an incident in St. Boniface Tuesday evening saw a man taken to hospital in critical condition.

Officers received reports at about 6p.m. of a man wandering in traffic near the corner of Provencher Boulevard and Tache Avenue and believed to be hallucinating, police said.

The man tried to get into several vehicles and entered a restaurant before boarding a nearby bus, police said Wednesday afternoon.

Police remained near the busy St. Boniface intersection through the evening Tuesday and were seenparked just outside aProvencher businessthrough rush hour Wednesday morning.

An area was also marked off with police tape.

Police said the manwas on the bus when they found him andin medical distress. He was taken to hospital by ambulance, unresponsive andin critical condition, where police said he remains.

A spokesperson for the Independent Investigation Unit said the agencyhadbeen notified but has not determined whether it will investigate.
