Winnipeg police investigate fatal stabbing on Victor Street

Winnipeg police are investigating the stabbing death of a 44-year-old woman in the city's West End early this morning.

Winnipeg police are investigating the stabbing death of a 44-year-old woman in the city's West End early this morning.

Emergency crews were called at about 3 a.m. Friday to the 500 block of Victor Street, where they found a 44-year-old woman with serious stab wounds to the upper body.

She was taken to hospital in critical condition but she was pronounced dead a short time later, according to police.

Police did not release the name of the deceased.

Homicide unit members are investigating.

"We are conducting interviews as we speak. I have no information with respect to charges at this time, but we do have individuals or people that we're speaking to in custody," Const. Jason Michalyshen told CBC News on Friday afternoon.

Michalyshen said there is a possibility that the stabbing may have stemmed from a domestic incident, but it's not something he can confirm at this time.
