Winnipeg police have arrested a suspect they say pushed an officer down a set of stairs and splashed with hot coffee.

Winnipeg police have arrested a suspect who got awayafter a fight in which an officer was allegedly pushed down a set of stairs and splashed with hot coffee.

Police arrested a 33-year-old Winnipeg man in the 1700 block of Henderson Highway on Friday with the help of its K9 and tactical units.

Police saidthey saw the man, who was asuspect, in a taxiaround 9:30 a.m. on July 10, so they followed the cab to a home onRedwood Avenue before trying to stop him.

The suspecttried to run into a nearby residence while an officer chased him, police said adding that'swhen the officer was splashed with hot coffee and pushed down a set of stairs.

During the altercation, a loaded firearm and set of handcuffs fell out of a bag that had been around the suspect'sneck. The suspect tried to pass the bag to a woman who ran out of the home, who officersapprehended while the man ran away, police said.

Inside the purse, officers found around $11,500 worth ofcrack cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and a substance believed to be fentanyl.

Arrested this week

The woman, a 25-year-old from Selkirk, Man., was charged witha number of firearm and drug-related offences and obstructing a peace officer.

The man faces anumberof charges including possession of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl and methamphetaminefor the purpose of traffickingand possession of a firearm.
