A staff member at a downtown Winnipeg nursing home has tested positive forCOVID-19, joininga growing list of cases inside long-term personal care facilities managed by Ontario-based Revera Inc.

The company confirmed late Wednesday it received confirmation a day earlier that an employee at the Parkview Place long-term care facility on Edmonton Street, in the Central Park area, tested positive for COVID-19.

Revera chief medical officer Dr. Rhonda Collin said the staffer last worked on April 2and is at home in self-isolation.

Revera spokesperson Larry Roberts said the facility is closely monitoring all residents and staff for symptoms of COVID-19. He said so far no residents have symptoms, so no tests have been done.

He added that staff are screened at the start and end of their shifts for symptoms and fever. He wouldn't say what rolethe staffer who tested positive has.

The COVID-19 case is at least the second at a Revera facility in Winnipeg.

Last Friday, the company confirmed a patient tested positive for COVID-19 at the Poseidon Care Centre in River Heights. The two cases are part of a growing list at Revera facilities across the country.

There have been cases at care homes in Calgary, Kitchener, Ont., Stratford, Ont.,Picton, Ont.,Toronto, West Vancouver, Carleton Place and Windsor, Ont., some of which have resulted in deaths.

In Calgary at the McKenzie Towne Continuing Care Centre, Roberts said 12 residents have already died after getting the virus.

Worker at St. Vital care home tests positive

The news from Revera came as the province announced Wednesday that 18 health-care workers in the Winnipeg health region and two in the province's Interlake had tested positive for COVID-19.

Anda patient at theRiverview Health Centre also tested positive for COVID-19.Thecentreprovides long-term and palliative care. The province said the patient was not a resident of the facility's personal care home.

A previous presumptive positive case of COVID-19 in Gimli at the Betel personal care home last week turned out to be a false positive. The province previously said a worker there tested positive and nine residents at Betel Home started showing symptoms of respiratory illness but it was ruled as a false positivetest on Sunday.
