Winnipeg magician Darcy Oake in Britain's Got Talent finals

Winnipeg magician Darcy Oake has made it to the finals of Britain's Got Talent.

He did it Monday with ateleportationillusion that began with him sitting on a chair on a platform, covering himself with a sheet, then disappearing and re-appearing as part of the camera crew.

The audience and the judges were stunned and gave him a standing ovation.

Oake told CBC News on Tuesday that he knew theperformancewas a risk.

"It was a very different approach than my first one and I was worried that maybe the audience wouldn't connect me with a performance like that, but luckily, yeah, it went well so I can't complain," he said.

Oaketook to Twitter after the show to celebrate being one of the first contestants on BGT to advance from the semi-finals.

"Making it to the finals of Britain's Got Talent is a dream come true. Thank you for the votes and the love."

Thousands of performersapplied to be on BGT, one of the world's largest talent shows. Hundreds were given auditions andjust 45 made it through to the semi-finals.

The finals go Saturday.

The winner takes home a cash prize of 250,000 British pounds or $455,000 (CDN).
