Winnipeg jury finds man guilty of killing Divas Boulanger

A Winnipeg jury has found a man guilty of killing Divas Boulanger, a transgender sex-trade worker whose body was found near Portage la Prairie, Man., in November 2004.

A Winnipeg jury has found a man guilty of killing a transgender sex-trade worker.

The jury foundTheodore Herntierguilty on Thursday evening of second-degree murder in the deathof Divas Boulanger, also known asDivas B.

Herntier was charged in 2010.Divas B., who was born David Boulanger, was found dead in 2004 in the bushes near a rest stop east of Portage la Prairie, Man.

Alaya McIvor, who is also transgender, said she has been waiting 11 years for the verdict into the case of her best friend's murder. Shewas able to attend the trial a few times. She got a text last night to alert her to the verdict.

"I was already sleeping, and my notifications started going off," she said. "I woke up and checked it and my reaction was I started crying, Because it was 11 years,4,025 days later, that justice has come for Divas,"

"Not a day that goes by that I don't think of her. I'm sure that she would be doing the same if I was ever to go missing and found murdered, if she were here with us today."

Herntier will be sentenced at a later date.
