A grassroots campaign geared to get aboriginal voters out to the polls made one final push on Wednesday.

About 25 people from Winnipeg Indigenous Rock the Vote, a non-partisan group, held a rally at noon nearWinnipeg city hall.

Voter turnout is typically low among aboriginal people. The group turned to social media during the election campaign to try increasing those numbers by givingpeople information on when and where to vote, but not suggesting in any wayhow to vote.

"Just exercise your right.Certainly, we know for aboriginal people it was only in 1960 that we were even recognized to be even able to vote,"saidSylviaBoudreau, one of the organizers of Wednesday's gathering.

Voting in Winnipeg's civic election goes today until 8 p.m.
