Winnipeg businessman donates 30 computers to help Syrian refugees

A Winnipeg businessman has donated 30 computers to a group that's helping Syrian refugees who have arrived in the city.

Abdo El Tassi donated the laptops on Friday at L'Accueil Francophone, a program of the SocitFranco-Manitobaine that supports newcomers to the province.

El Tassi said he left Lebanon in 1969 and has since become a successful entrepreneur who wants to share his good fortune with others, regardless of where they are from.

"We're not restricted to [a] Muslim country or a non-Muslim country; that's not the case," he said.

"The case is wherever you can help anybody in humanity in this world then you do that."

El Tassi said he has helped 50 refugees in total over the years, including 30 who came to Canada from Vietnam.
