Winnipeg city Coun. Swandel rules out re-election bid

Winnipeg's city council will have a different look regardless of who wins or loses in October's civic election.

Winnipeg's city council will have a different look regardless of who wins or loses in October's civic election.

St. Norbert Coun.Justin Swandel announced Monday he will not be running again. Instead, he plans toexplore opportunities in real estate and development work.

Swandel, currently the chair of the public works committee and the city's deputy mayor, has been on council since 2005.

"I love my job but on any given day I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy," he said about the demands of council.

He joins Coun. Scott Fielding who has also said his name will not be on the fall ballot.As well, Coun. Paula Havixbeck is taking a run at the mayor's chair so her council seat will have a new tenant.

And Mayor Sam Katzsays he will make his intentions known later this month.
