What's open, what's closed on Remembrance Day

Businesses and services around the city are closing or operating on reduced hours in honour of Remembrance Day in Winnipeg.

Businesses and services around the city are closingor operating on reduced hours in honour of Remembrance Day in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Transit will be operating on a Sunday schedule on Friday, and at 11 a.m., all buses in the city will pull over and stop in a safe location to recognize one minute of silence.

You'll also notice a "Lest We Forget" message scrolling across the front of buses in addition to their usual route information all day long.

Most city services are closing up shop for the day.

Garbage and recycling won't be collected on Friday. Instead, collections for Friday will be done on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Libraries and leisure centres will be closed all day, as well as all City of Winnipeg civic offices andAnimal Services, the Winnipeg Parking Authority and cemetery offices throughout the city.

Brookside, St. Vital and Transconacemetery grounds will be open for visitation from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Most swimming pools won't be open, but if you feel like a swim, you can head to Pan Am Pool from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. or the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Shopping and entertainment

If you need to get shopping done, most malls in the city are open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., including Polo Park Shopping Centre, Grant Park Shopping Centre, St. Vital Centre and Kildonan Place.

Costco will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and most Liquor Marts in the province will open their doors at 1 p.m., except for the City Place Liquor Mart, which will be closed all day.

The Forks Market building will open its doors at 8 a.m., but the stores inside won't be open until 1 p.m.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights and the Manitoba Museum will both be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m, and the Winnipeg Art Gallery will be open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.Veterans andmembers of the Canadian Armed Forces will get free admission from Friday to Sunday.

The AssiniboinePark Zoo will be open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., but The Park Cafwill be closed. Veterans, military personnel and their families can get in free on Friday and Saturday.

The Children's Museum at the Forks will also be open, andveterans and still-serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces get 50 per cent off admission on Friday.
