West-central Winnipeg's Tuxedo riding has been a Progressive Conservative stronghold since it was created in 1981.

The riding is bordered by the Assiniboine River to the north and Ridgewood Avenue and the CN Rivers rail line in the south. Its western boundary runs along William R. Clement Parkway and Laxdal Road, while its eastern boundary runs along Sir John Franklin Road.

It includes the neighbourhoods of Tuxedo and Elmhurst.

Tuxedo's total population is 21,280, according to Elections Manitoba'sriding profile (which includes information compiled from the 2021 census). The census found the riding's median household income was $92,000 and its median age was 45.2, older than the provincial median age of 38.4.

• Nearly one-quarter of the Tuxedo riding's residents 24.1 per cent are 65 or older, its riding profile shows.
• Only 15.5 per cent of the riding's residents identify as visible minorities. However, that number has grown since 2016 by about two per cent.
• The median value of a home in the riding is $400,000, the profile says, and close to 71 per cent of residents reported they owned their home.

Voting history

Since its inception in 1981, Tuxedo has only ever voted Progressive Conservative. The riding's seat is currently held by PC Leader Heather Stefanson.

The nominated candidates for the 2023 election are (as of Sept. 2):

• Larissa Ashdown (NDP).
• Marc Brandson (Liberal).
• Heather Stefanson (Progressive Conservative incumbent).

Candidates become official when they meet criteria set out in the province's Elections Act, including providing a statement of disclosure, after the election has been called. In Tuxedo, all candidates are official.
