Tories propose $40M for new Calgary science centre

If re-elected, the Progressive Conservatives would invest $40 million in new science centre in Calgary near the zoo.

If re-elected, the Progressive Conservatives would invest $40 million in new science centre in Calgary near the zoo.

The current Telus World of Science and Creative Kids Museum on the western edge of downtown Calgary is tentatively slated to be torn down to make way for the new west LRT extension.

A new facility, which would host five science pavilions, exhibit hall, and 500-seat theatre, would cost $160 million and be funded by public and private sectors, said Tory Leader Ed Stelmach on Tuesday.

The centre would double the number of visitors it could accommodate to about 500,000, he added.

No timetable for construction was announced.
