Teen injured in Winnipeg's 2nd weekend stabbing

A 16-year-old boy is in critical but stable condition after being stabbed in downtown Winnipeg early Sunday morning.

Police say they received a call about the stabbing, locatedoutside an apartment complex on the 300 block of Kennedy Street, just before 2 a.m.

The boy sustained serious injuries to his upper and lower body, according to police.

This marks the second time a teenager has been stabbed in Winnipeg this weekend.

Early Saturday morning, a 15-year-old wasstabbed multiple timesnear the intersection of College Avenue and Aikins Street in an unrelated incident. That teen is also in critical condition in hospital.

Policesay Saturday's case may havebeen gang-related.

Winnipeg Police Service Const. Jason Michalyshen said more must be done to help the city's youth.

"Why is this happening, and how do we reach out to some of our youth with respect to being involved in this kind of activity, and how can we prevent it?" Michalyshentold CBC News on Sunday.

"We have to continue to offer young people positive alternate ways of going through their days."

The police service's major crimessection is investigating both incidents. No arrests were made as of midday Sunday.
