As Target stores across Canada begin to liquidate their stock on Thursday, more than a dozen Winnipeg companies are still owed more than $1 million by the retailer.

Target Canada Co. filed for creditor protection earlier this month and announced it would be closing all of its Canadian locations, less than two years after opening.

Now, a number of Winnipeg companies are waiting to be paid.

Also on the list, Old Dutch Foods and Nygard International.

The Province of Manitobas taxation division is also reportedly owed more than $1 million.

None of the companies on the list wanted to comment on the outstanding debts.

A provincial official said the province is not able to discuss any information about a specific taxpayer in this case, Target Canada Co.

A City of Winnipeg official said, Targets future business activities now fall under rules established by Federal legislation. Any amounts owed by Target to the City of Winnipeg will be addressed as part of that process.
