Drivers urged to vote for Manitoba's worst roads

Manitoba drivers are being invited tovote onlinefor the most congested, most unsafe, most pothole-pocked roads in the province.

The Manitoba branch of the Canadian Automobile Association has begun an online program to draw attention to the poor state of the province's roads and highways.

"Whether it's damaging potholes, extreme traffic congestion, or generally unsafe roads, we've all been there," says the contest on the CAA website.

Since the contest began Tuesday morning, Winnipeg's St. James Streethas led the pack as the worst street in the province.

But lots of other routes, both rural and urban, were providing competition for the dubious title, including Marion Street and McGillivray Boulevard in Winnipeg and Victoria Avenue in Brandon.

People can vote early and often and participants are eligible to win a free oil change, a $500 car care package and other prizes.

The auto association said the campaign is meant to goad governments into action.

Voting ends April 23, at which point CAA will present the top 10 worst roads in Manitoba.
