Violence erupted on a Winnipeg street early Saturday morning when a15-year-old was stabbed multiple times in a case police say may be gang-related.

According to reports from the scene, police and ambulance crews were dispatched to the intersection of College Avenue and Aikins Street around 2:30 a.m. CT to respond to a call about ayoung manwho had been stabbed.

The injured youthrequired emergency treatment. Police officers were the first to arrive and administered first aid until ambulance crews came.

The boy was rushed to hospital in critical condition, police said.

According to police, the victimwho was riding a mountain bikewas with a friend when they encountered a group of males and some sort of confrontation broke out.

"We might be dealing with street gangs with respect to this particular incident," Winnipeg police Const. Jason Michalyshen said Saturday. "We're exploring that component."

Officers from Winnipeg's major crimes section were investigating. No arrests had made made as of Saturday morning.
