St. Boniface shooting rattles residents

St Boniface residents say theyre troubled after gunshots rang out Sunday while children were playing outside.

St Boniface residents say they're troubled after gunshots rang out Sunday while children were playing outside.

People living near 153Aubert Street between Tach Avenue and St. Joseph Street say they heard gunshots followed by policesirens late Sunday morning.

Police said Sundayevening a person was taken to hospital after the shooting.

Julie Lajoie said she was in her backyard with her daughters when she heard two gunshots fired at around noon.Lajoie said police were still driving around the area and checking between houses throughoutthe afternoon Sunday.

"There are lots of families so there is always tons of kids playing outside," Lajoie said in an email. "So that it happens so close and in middle of the day, it is certainly troubling."

Anthony Robertson said this is the third shooting he's seen in the short time he's been in the neighbourhood.

He said that he got Tango, his German shepherd,after awoman was shot in the area early last year.

Sunday's incident was a "pretty frightening set-up scene. All the police force, and guns out, and everything. But it's not the first time," he said.

"I'd like to stay in this area. It's just a shame."
