Snowfall warning issued for Winnipeg, 10 to 20 centimetres on the way

Get your shovels ready Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Southern Manitoba, including Winnipeg, where 10 to 20centimetres are expected to fallFriday night.

The City of Winnipeg is preparing for snow clearing as a result of the heavy snowfall in the forecast. On Friday, crews will carry out sanding operations on bridges and overpasses.

A system from Saskatchewan and the Dakotas is expected to bring heavy snow into southern Manitoba, especially around the U.S. border, including Emerson, Morden andWinkler.

Environment Canada has sent out a warning for blustery conditions and poor visibility in thatareaof the province, with as much as one to two centimetres of snow falling every hour at times.

For areas along the Trans-Canada Highway, 10 to 20centimetres of snow is expected to fall and as much as 20 centimetres could land around the border.

On Friday night, the expected low is 25 C and winds could gust all the way up to 60 km/h near midnight. With the windchill, Environment Canada is expecting it to feel like 38 C.

There is an extreme cold warning in effect for northern Manitoba Friday night, with wind chills around48.

By Saturday morning, expect blowing snow that continues into theearly afternoon, with north winds gusting to 50 km/h but becoming light in the evening.

The expected high is 24 C (38 with wind chill) and on Sunday thehigh is expected to drop slightly to -26 C.
