Snow makes driving treacherous in southern Manitoba

It's not easy to get around in southern Manitoba right now.

The snow that started falling Wednesday morning kept coming on Thursday,leaving deep pilesand drifts, and causing roads to be extremelyslick.

There are numerous reports of crashes and vehicles getting stuck.

Wind is expected to cause poor visibility in swirling snow.

• Flurries andblowing snowall day.
• About 2 cm of fresh snow expected.
• Temperatures fallthrough the day to 12 C by afternoon and 14 by 9 p.m.
• Windnorthwest40-60 km/h in morning, 30-50 km/h in afternoon.
• TONIGHT cloudy with 30 per cent chance of flurries.
• Wind drops off in evening.
• Overnight low 18 C with a wind chill of26.

Manitoba Public Insurance says over the past two days, there have been more than 1,500 collision claims, with most of them due to the snowfall.

A spokesperson with Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation said all highways are snow-coverednorth of Winnipeg and in southeast Manitoba but there are no closures.
