Semi-trailer crashes into bridge, gets stuck for hours

A semi-trailer was left twisted and crunched after it crashed into a bridge and became wedged for several hours on Wednesday afternoon.
The 59-year-old man who was driving this semi-trailer was dinged with a fine for ignoring the low bridge ahead. His truck, however, had more than a ding. (RCMP)

A semi-trailer was left twisted and crunched after it crashed into a bridge and became wedged for several hours on Wednesday afternoon.

It happenedjust before 3 p.m. at theCP Rail bridge inKemnay, a small communityjust west of Brandon.

Highway 1A, the Trans-Canada Highway route that goes throughBrandon, was closed for about 4 hours as a result and traffic was detoured around the site.

The 59-year-old man who was driving thesemi wasfined for ignoring the low bridge ahead warning sign.

There were no injuriesand police say neither alcohol orfatigue was a factor.

CP police and bridge inspectors were also called to the scene to inspect the damage.
