Manitoba Marathon, Jazz Festival force road closures around Winnipeg

Driving around parts of Winnipeg is going to be a little slower over the next few days.

The TD Jazz Winnipeg Festival and theManitoba Marathon are forcing a number of road closures.

The following closures will be in place June 1619 during the jazz festival:

• Bannatyne Avenue between Arthur Street and King Street closed at 9 a.m. on June 15, and will remain closed until 5 a.m. June 19.
• King Street between Bannatyne Avenue and William Avenue will be closed from 6p.m. June 16 until 6 a.m. June 19.

Motorists are encouraged to find alternative routes during Sunday's marathon, whichstarts at Investors Group Fieldon the University of Manitoba campus andgoes north to Wolseley and Wellington Crescent before looping back south to the stadium.

From 7 a.m. until noon Sunday, access from Pembina Highway onto Jubilee Avenue will be blocked for both northbound and southbound traffic.

Westbound traffic on Jubilee will be able to access Pembina's southbound lanes but not the northbound ones.

The course will also direct runners along Harrow Street between GrosvenorAvenue and Pembina, so traffic will be restricted at intersections along the way, such as Corydon Avenue, Grant Avenue, and Taylor Avenue.

Police will be on hand to direct traffic but cars will only be allowed to cross when gaps between runners allow for it.

Winnipeg Transit users are also advised to double-check their schedules on Sunday. Transit will re-route buses operating in the vicinity of the marathon.
