Winnipeg police paying 'special attention' to River Heights after more break-ins

Some River Heights residents are getting fed up with more break-ins their areaand Winnipeg police say they are paying "special attention" to the problem.

Police say there have been five break-ins in the past four daysone on Cambridge and four on Mathers Bay.

Dan McIsaac had his car broken into on Monday night, for the third time in the past couple of months.

"It's not the happiest thing to wake up to but a consequence to living in this neighbourhood these days," McIsaac said.
"This car has been hit in this garage twice and on on the street...Took everything. Lost my work keys, my work laptop, it was brutal."

McIsaac said the thieves came in through the back fence, into the garage and broke the car window with a pair of garden shears.

"Incredibly frustrating," McIsaac said."This area sees a ton of property crime because it's a easy target...It's crimes of opportunity which are going to happen everywhere so uprooting and moving to a different area won't help that.

"I'm going to put cameras up. This is nonsense. This is the second time the car has been hit inside the garage and while my attitude is you just have to live with it and move I'm just not happy with this and I'm going to be proactive"
