Thousands turn out for Remembrance Day services in Winnipeg

The national anthem echoed through the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg Friday morning as around 4,500 people showed up to take part in the Remembrance Day service.

The national anthem echoed through the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg Friday morning as around 4,500people showed up to take part in the Remembrance Day service.

With red poppies pinned to the lapels of their jackets, veterans and members of the public listened attentively as speakers remembered the sacrifices people have made for Canada.

There werea number of locations in the city where Winnipeggers remembered soldiers.

The largest Remembrance Day ceremony wasat the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg. The service began at 10:15 a.m. The event washosted by the Joint Veterans Association of Manitoba.

Other 2016 Remembrance Day services in Winnipeg included:

  • Minto Armouries Remembrance Day Parade at the Minto Armoury. The event beganat 9:45 a.m.
  • HMCS CHIPPAWA Remembrance Day Ceremony. The service was open to the public and began at 10:30 a.m., concluding with a reception.
  • Royal Winnipeg Rifles Remembrance Day Ceremony at Vimy Ridge Memorial Park. The event beganat 10:30 a.m.
  • McGregor Armouries Remembrance Day Parade. The doors opened at 10:00 a.m.
  • Remembrance Day Ceremony Valour Road at Valour Road Commemorative Plaza beganat 10:45.
  • St. Norbert Cenotaph Remembrance Day Ceremony. The service started at10:45 a.m. at the First World War cenotaph.

Other services in Manitoba included:

  • Brandon Remembrance Day service. The ceremony went from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Keystone Centre.
  • Roland Remembrance Day service. Music beganat 10:30 a.m.
  • Teulon Remembrance Day service. Celebrations included a pancake breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. with a service at 10:30 a.m at Teulon Hall. Awreath-laying ceremony followedatTeulon Lions Club.
  • St. Pierre-Jolys Remembrance Day service. A ceremony and wreath-laying service started at 10:45 at theSt. Pierre-Jolys Recreational Centre.
