Former Manitoba Mountie guilty of sexually assaulting girl, 9

A former Manitoba RCMP officer has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl.

A former Manitoba RCMP officer has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl.

Robert Dowd, 55, was convicted of sexual assault and sexual interference in provincial court in Ashern, Man., on Tuesday. He will be sentenced at a later date.

At the time of his arrest, Dowd had 26 years of service with the RCMP.

The incident happened on Sept. 26, 2014 near the town of Ashern, located about 165 kilometres north of Winnipeg.

Dowd was not on duty at the time.
