Pukatawagan man charged in 8-year-old sister's death

RCMP have charged a 20-year-old man from Pukatawagan, Man., with second-degree murder in the death of his eight-year-old sister earlier this summer.

Skye Midnightsun Bighetty was found unresponsive on June 29in the basement of the family homein the northern Manitoba community. She was pronounced dead at a nearby nursing station.

The child's death has been attributed to foul play, RCMP said in a release.

The man, who police identified asSkye's brother, was arrested and charged on Friday.

The RCMP did not release the name of the man. He is in custody and will make a court appearance in Winnipeg on Saturday.
