Manitoba RCMP are investigating after a buyer responding to a Kijiji ad for a Sony PlayStation 4 walked home with just a box full of binders and books.

The would-be gaming station buyer had been text messaging with someone who said they were selling a PS4 Uncharted Edition through an advertisement on the online classified site, RCMP said.

The buyer and seller decided to meet at a gas station at Deacons Corner in the Rural Municipality of Springfield, just outside Winnipeg,on Saturday afternoon to complete the sale.

The buyer expected to open the box and see a PS4 Uncharted Edition like this one seen on the Playstation website, but instead found only binders and books. (Playstation.com)

The seller entered the gas station with a crutch under his arm before he was paid the agreed-upon price of $230. RCMP said the buyer tried to open the box several times but each time was distracted by the seller, who kept on talking.

When it came time to leave, the seller walked out without using the crutches, RCMP said.

That's when the buyer finally opened the box which was supposed to hold the limited-edition PS4 but inside found only binders and books.

The suspect is described as five-feet-ten-inches tall and about 200 pounds. He was wearing a red hoodie with the slogan "Get Your Claws Out," black sweat pants with the emblem "CROOKS" on the right leg, white sneakers and a grey baseball cap.

Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP at 204-444-3847 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
