Power restored to hundreds of Manitoba Hydro customers

Power was restored to 340 Manitoba Hydro customers in Winnipeg's St. Vital neighbourhood early Friday more than 12 hours after a contractor knocked out a cable line.

Power was restored to 340 Manitoba Hydro customers in Winnipeg's St. Vital neighbourhood early Friday more than 12 hours after a contractor knocked out a cable line.

Hydrohad initially hoped to fix the outage by 11p.m., butcrews had to excavate to reach the line, which took several hours.

The affected area was bounded by Dakota Street to the east, PaddingtonRoadto the west, BurlandAvenueto the north and the Perimeter Highway to the south.

Acontractor hit a 12,000 volt feeder cable nearAldgateRoad andScammelRoad around1:45 p.m. Thursday.The damage initially caused 1,400 St. Vital customers to lose power.

Hydro crews restored power to 1,060 of them by 4:30 p.m. by routing their power from another source.
