Peguis First Nation elects new chief, Cindy Spence

Manitoba'sPeguisFirst Nation has a new chief.

Cindy Spence beat incumbent Glenn Hudson in a tight race that went late Wednesday.Also, three out of the four new councillors on the First Nation,located about 145 kilometres north of Winnipeg,are women.

Peguisholds band and council elections every two years andHudson, who was first elected in 2007, has held offchallenges from Spence as well asothers in every election since then.

Peguisis the largest First Nations community in the province, with apopulation of more than7,330people.
