Fire consumes 2-storey house in Winnipeg's North End

A Winnipeg neighbourhood was blanketed in smoke as fire consumed a vacanthouse in the city's North End Wednesday night.

It's the second fire in a month at the 2-storey houseon Pritchard Avenue between Powers and Salter streets. Fire crews were also called there onDec. 11.

The latest fire brought out emergency crews around 11 p.m. Wednesday. They encountered thick smoke coming out of the main level as well as boarded-up windows on the second floor.

The smoke anddamage from the December fire prevented crews fromsafely entering the structure, a news release from theCity of Winnipeg said.

Instead, they attacked the fire from the exterior of the house using an aerial ladder.

Aneighbouring house was evacuated as a precaution.

About 15 emergency units were at the fireat one point, along with a couple of police cars.

No injuries have been reported, the city newsrelease said.

The house is considered a complete loss and arrangements are being made for itto be demolished.

Firefighters will remain at the houseto extinguish hot spots until demolition is complete, the city said.

Pritchard will remain closed until that work is done.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
