A Winnipeg woman missing since June sought protection from the courts against a man policenow say may know something about where she can be found.

On Feb. 12, Mildred Flett, 51, was granted a protection order against Anthony Joseph Martin, 46. She is also known as Mildred Nelson, police said.

In her sworn written application to obtain that order under Manitoba's Domestic Violence and Stalking Act, Flett alleged Martin had assaulted her and that she was concerned about his access to weapons.

"Anthony is very angry often," Flett wrote. "Sometimes, I['m] not sure what else he'll do. He is an artist who carves weapons knives," she stated.

She also alleged to a provincial magistrate that Martin had threatened her a number of times and that he had been violent towards her in the past.

The alleged assault prompting her to seek court protection left her needing dental work, Flett stated.

The allegations have not been proven in court and Martin is presumed innocent. It is not known if Flett made a formal complaint to police.

Officers with the Manitoba Sheriffs department personally served Martin with the restraining order on Feb. 16, court records show.

Police said on Tuesday that they wanted to speak with Martin on the belief that he may have information about Flett's whereabouts.

They said he is also currently wanted on an unrelated arrest warrant, but didn't say for what offence.

Investigators said Martin was last seen in central Winnipeg on July 29. He was wearing black gym pants with a dark blue T-shirt and appeared to be somewhat disheveled.

Flett is described as aboriginal,five-feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds. She has medium-length wavy black hair and brown eyes.

Police said they havereceived information suggesting Flett may have cut her hair short.

Anyone with information about her disappearance or where Martin can be found is asked to call the missing persons unit at 204-986-6250.
